What to Do Immediately After a Hailstorm Damages Your Car

Colorado storms can roll in fast—and when they bring hail, they leave behind a lot of damage in their wake. If your vehicle was caught in the storm, here’s exactly what you need to do right now to minimize stress, protect your vehicle, and avoid costly mistakes.

Step 1: Stay Calm and Take Photos

First things first—breathe. You’re not alone. Thousands of drivers experience hail damage every year in Colorado Springs. The best thing you can do is document the damage. First, take photos from every angle. Be sure to include close-ups of dents and broken glass. Also note the time and date of the storm. These will help with your insurance claim and help you get proper repairs.

Step 2: Call Your Insurance Company

Most hail damage is covered under your comprehensive coverage. You’ll need to start a claim and get a claim number. Your insurance company will ask for the date, time, and location of the storm. They will also ask if you know the size of hail stones, the size of damage, and how many panels are affected. Most companies will schedule a video inspection to write their initial estimate. Don’t be too concerned that they can’t really see anything or that the amount they write for is too low. That’s where we come in. It is important to call Pro Auto Spa before scheduling repairs with your insurance’s “preferred provider.” Why? Because those “preferred” shops often prioritize speed and cost over quality. At Pro Auto Spa, we work with every insurance company—but we work for YOU.

Step 3: Avoid Traveling Storm Chasers

Beware of pop-up tents offering “free deductibles” or promising fast fixes. These companies often leave town once the storm season ends, use subpar materials or skip quality control, and disappear when issues arise later.

Pro Auto Spa is locally owned and operated. We’ve served Colorado Springs for over 12 years and stand behind every repair we do.

Step 4: Schedule a Free Hail Assessment at Pro Auto Spa

What is the difference between a Ceramic Coating and Paint Protection Film?

At Pro Auto Spa, we get a lot of questions about the difference between ceramic coatings and paint protection film (PPF). There is a lot of misinformation out there, and we want to clear things up so you can make the best decision for your vehicle.
Both ceramic coatings and PPF are excellent ways to protect your car’s paint, but they serve different purposes. Let’s break it down.
What is a Ceramic Coating?
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to a vehicle’s paint that chemically bonds with the surface, creating a hydrophobic (water-repellent) layer. Once cured, it enhances the paint’s gloss, makes cleaning easier, and provides some resistance to UV rays, chemical contaminants, and minor abrasions.
Benefits of Ceramic Coating:
• Gloss and Depth: Enhances the shine and depth of your paint.
• Hydrophobic Properties: Water, dirt, and grime bead off easily.
• UV and Chemical Protection: Helps prevent oxidation and fading.
• Ease of Maintenance: Cleaning your car is easier and faster.
What a Ceramic Coating Does NOT Do:
• Prevent rock chips and deep scratches.
• Act as a physical barrier against damage.
• Eliminate the need for washing (your car still gets dirty)
What is Paint Protection Film (PPF)?
Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a self-healing polyurethane film applied to your car’s exterior to protect against physical damage. It acts as a sacrificial layer, absorbing impact from rock chips, scratches, road debris, and other hazards.
Benefits of PPF:
• Rock Chip Protection: Shields your paint from road debris and impacts.
• Self-healing Properties: Minor scratches disappear with heat.
• UV Protection: Prevents paint from fading over time.
• Stain Resistance: Guards against bug splatter, bird droppings, and other contaminants.
• Ceramic Infused: Makes cleaning easier.
• There are now many options besides clear including different colors and designs for PPF.
What PPF Does NOT Do:
• Provide the same level of gloss as a ceramic coating.
• Make washing unnecessary (dirt still accumulates).
• Prevent dents and dings.
• Last forever (depending on the use and abuse of your vehicle)
Which One is Right for You?
It depends on what you are looking for:
• If you want easier maintenance, deep gloss, and chemical resistance then go with a ceramic coating.
• If you want maximum protection against rock chips, scratches, and road debris then PPF is the better choice.
• For the Ultimate Protection, apply both! Many of our clients choose PPF for high-impact areas (like the front end, hood, fenders, and mirrors) and add a ceramic coating on top for extra gloss and easy cleaning.
Final Thoughts
At Pro Auto Spa, we specialize in both Ceramic Coatings and PPF applications, and we always take time to educate our customers. If you are unsure about what’s best for your car, bring it in, and we’ll walk you through your options based on your driving habits, budget, and protection goals.

The Truth About Hail Damage Repair: You Have a Choice!

The Truth About Hail Damage Repair: You Have a Choice!

Imagine this: You’re driving home after a long day when you hear the dreaded sound – ping, ping, PING! Hail is hammering down on your car like a drum solo in a rock concert. Fast forward to the next morning, and your once-sleek ride now looks like it was parked on the driving range for a month. You file an insurance claim, and they send you a list of “preferred” body shops. Great, right? Not so fast.
Here’s the biggest misconception about insurance claims: You don’t have to use the shop your insurance company recommends. That’s right – you have the power to choose where your car gets repaired.
The Six-Month Nightmare That Could Have Been Avoided
Just this week, a woman walked into Pro Auto Spa, frustrated and exhausted. She had been waiting SIX months for a big-name national body shop to fix her hail damage. Six months of driving a dented car. Six months of calling, waiting, and getting the same answer: “We’ll get to it soon.”
Guess what? She didn’t have to wait at all. She didn’t even realize she had a choice. When she found out that Pro Auto Spa could fix her hail damage immediately, she was shocked and relieved.
Why Do Insurance Companies Push Certain Shops?
Insurance companies steer customers toward “preferred” shops because they have agreements in place – not necessarily because those shops are the best or fastest. These agreements often mean the shop is working under strict cost limitations that may not prioritize speed or quality. Meanwhile, independent shops (like Pro Auto Spa) focus on getting your car back to you quickly and looking flawless – not on cutting corners to meet an insurance company’s bottom line.
Why Choose Pro Auto Spa for Hail Damage Repair?
• No long wait times – We can get your car in now instead of months from now.
• Expert repair work – Our team specializes in paintless dent repair (PDR), which is the best method for fixing hail damage without harming your car’s original paint.
• We work with all insurance companies – Just because we’re not on their “preferred” list doesn’t mean we can’t handle your claim. We absolutely can, and we make the process easy.
Don’t Let Insurance Dictate Your Choice
If your car has hail damage, don’t sit around waiting for a body shop to finally call you back. You have a choice. Come to Pro Auto Spa where we’ll fix your car quickly and professionally – no endless waiting required.
Your car deserves better than a six-month delay. And so do you.

Dings and Dents Just Pop Out, Right?

Dings and Dents Just Pop Out, Right?

We’ve all seen this on a video. Some guy comes out of the grocery store and notices a big dent in the side of his car. He drives to the gas station, blows pressurized air into his tailpipe – and BOOM! – the dent magically disappears. If only it were that easy! At Pro Auto Spa, we often have customers come in, point at a dent, and say, “Can’t you just pop it out?”

Well, we hate to be the bearers of bad news, but dents don’t work like those expandable sponge dinosaurs you put in water. There’s a real science behind Paintless Dent Repair (PDR), and today, we’re going to break it down. Why Dents Don’t Just “Pop” Back Out Your car’s body isn’t made of rubber – it’s made of steel or aluminum, and metal doesn’t just snap back into place. When a dent happens, the metal stretches, bends, and sometimes even warps. That means fixing it takes more than just pushing from behind – it requires precision, patience, the proper tools, and the right techniques.

           Common Myths About Dents

Can’t you just use a plunger or suction cup?

We appreciate the DIY spirit, but unless you want your car looking like it lost a battle to a toilet, we don’t recommend it. Plungers can actually make dents worse by pulling unevenly or damaging the paint.

If I park in the sun, the heat will make the dent pop out.

Nice try, but unless you’re driving a car made of memory foam, that dent isn’t going anywhere. Heat can help make metal more pliable, but it won’t reverse the damage on its own. If I push the dent from the inside, it’ll go back to normal.

While enthusiasm is great, this is more likely to create a lumpy mess than a smooth repair. Believe us, we’ve seen it more than we’d like to recall throughout the years. Besides, cars have reinforcement beams, sound-deadening materials, laminated glass, and many other obstacles, making this a bad idea. Don’t be a DIYer when it comes to PDR.

The Right Way to Fix a Dent: Paintless Dent Repair (PDR)
At Pro Auto Spa, we use Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) to restore dents to their original contour without repainting or body fillers. This process is superior than traditional body work and requires:

Specialized Tools – We use precision tools and other equipment to gently massage and move the metal back into place.

A Trained Eye – Every dent is different requiring a skilled technician to analyze the depth, size, and accessibility to determine the best approach.

Patience and Skill – PDR isn’t about brute force. It is a very delicate process that requires years of experience.

         Why Choose PDR?

            Maintains your original paint.

No need for fillers or repainting.

Faster repair than traditional body work.

No diminished value to your vehicle.

Moral of the Story: Bring It to the Pros

If your car has a dent just bring it to us or your trusted PDR shop. We’ll assess the damage and let you know if PDR is the right solution. Whether it’s a rogue shopping cart, a high-flying baseball, an aggressive parking lot ding, or a deer running into the side of your car, we’ve got you covered. Got a dent that needs fixing? Give us a call or stop by Pro Auto Spa – we promise we won’t use a plunger.

WHY PAINT PROTECTION FILM FOR TESLA MODELS MAKES SENSE

The best way to keep any EV protected is to install PPF or clear bra. Here are three reasons you should consider paint protection film for Tesla cars.

Some things go together. Whether new or previously owned, investing in factory paint protective solutions for a Tesla is an aftermarket decision that most EV owners eventually cross. As we all know, Tesla’s paint jobs are not on par with the quality of their technological advancements. And while there are several options to protect your Model 3, Model Y, Model X or Model S, investing in paint protection film for Tesla models is one that makes sense.

Tesla owners buy self-healing PPF for many reasons. It can protect fenders from scratching of shopping carts, can keep your Tesla Model 3 free from swirls caused by car washing, and can make it easier to clean bird droppings. However, some owners are concerned that PPF is too expensive, may not hold up to warranty claims, or can damage paint on the front bumper or hood.

and other protective solutions, some of these concerns are simply false. Clear bra can protect your new Tesla from rock chips, or keep that matte finish free of scratches. It’s the best

So, let’s explore the top three reasons why it’s a brilliant idea to include PPF or clear bra to your list of aftermarket paint protection solutions for 2022.

Reason #1 – Paint Protection Film is the Only Way to Reduce Paint Chipping

When it comes to the cosmetic appearance of any vehicle, damage to the paintwork due to hitting road debris is near the top of the list. Mild scratches created by automated car washing machines or swirl marks can be fixed through paint correction – or polishing by professional detailers. However, when a small piece of gravel or rock hits the paint – it can easily penetrate the thin factory clear coat and create a hard-to-fix chip.

PPF or a clear bra is a nearly indestructible thermoplastic polymer that is transparent, long-lasting, and can deflect most road debris once it hits the vehicle. While a ceramic coating can protect your Tesla from environmental contamination, it simply isn’t hard enough to make it resistant to hard objects hitting the car at highway speeds.

You can purchase automotive PPF with a matte or high gloss finish, one that heals instantly, and some with ceramic coating infused onto the top layer. It’s possible to install on your full hood, full front of the vehicle, or entire Tesla Model Y – front to back.

Installing a PPF on your Tesla is the only way to reduce permanent paint damage significantly. It’s recommended to have a professional detailer apply PPF on the vehicle’s front end – as this is where most road strike damage occurs.

Reason #2 – PPF on a Tesla can Hide Microscopic Paint Imperfections

Modern technology is used to streamline our daily lives. While we all use our mobile devices for everyday communication – from emails to video conference calls, some technology solutions help mask issues. One of the best reasons to install paint protection film is the nanotechnology infused in the adhesive.

When PPF is installed, the adhesive slip fills minor scratches, swirl marks, and other imperfections found in factory paint jobs – even those freshly delivered to customers. This helps to improve the depth, gloss, and shine of the paintwork, making black Tesla vehicles shiny – and white models crisp and clean. Adding an extra layer of ceramic coating on top of the clear bra can improve the hydrophobic shine properties and keep the vehicle cleaner.

The most popular Ceramic Pro package for Tesla models is the Ultimate Armor – or a complete front PPF installation, topped with Ceramic Pro 9H and Top Coat – and a complete ceramic coating package on all other vehicle surfaces of the entire car.

Ceramic coatings are known for keeping vehicles cleaner for more extended periods. This is often a disadvantage of some paint protection films. Ceramic Pro’s latest Ceramic Coated KAVACA PPF offers the best of both worlds – the strength of PPF and protection of ceramic coatings.

The film contains nanoceramic technology on the bottom adhesive and top layer. It helps to fill those minor imperfections on the clear coating once installed. The film’s ceramic top coating improves natural hydrophobic properties, blocks more UV damage, and makes it easier to remove sticky contaminants like tree sap, bird droppings, and bug splatters.

Finally, the installer will apply Ceramic Pro coatings on the full car – including wheels and calipers, glass, and on the full fenders. It reduces paint oxidation, and doubles up the layer of protection when installed on the painted surfaces and PPF. If you have a vinyl wrap, consider having a Ceramic Pro shop apply Vinyl & PPF ceramic coatings – to protect that expensive wrap from environmental damage.

Window tinting technology has evolved significantly over the years. In fact, there are new Ceramic IR window films that can reflect up to 96% of heat producing infrared radiation from entering your vehicle – that keeps your Porsche comfortable and cool. There are also tints with this protective quality that are nearly transparent.

Six Tips for Choosing the Right Window Tint for Your Porsche

Technology makes everything easier. But sometimes, the multitude of window tint manufacturers, types, styles, VLTs, and other factors can create more confusion. If you want to get rid of these hurdles and remove any confusion, here are six simple tips for choosing the best window tint for your Porsche.

Tip #1 – Where Do You Live?

Before you contact any window tint film installer near you, the first question you should consider is where you live. Most entry-level tints are designed mainly for aesthetic improvements – with protection against harmful UV rays. But, if you live in the southern US, opting for an IR-blocking window tint that can protect the interior and your skin from UV damage is a good idea.

Tip #2 – Does Your Porsche Currently Have Privacy Glass?

If your Porsche is relatively new, the rear windows (and possibly the fronts) will likely be tinted. However, this can be extremely deceptive. It's more probable that your newer vehicle has factory glass or installed privacy glass than protective window film.

The tinting of car windows may sometimes be referred to as privacy glass. It's a particularly produced automobile window with a dark pigment added during manufacturing. Its main purpose is to improve privacy so that others can't look in your vehicle. However, it provides minimal UV or IR protection.

If you have privacy glass – and want protection from UVA, UVB, and heat-producing IR – then you should consider a window tint that offers these protective qualities.

Tip #3 – Understand Window Tint Terminology

The best advice we can offer for choosing a window film is to learn the industry terminology. In the window tint world, there are three abbreviations you will hear in the description of window tints.

is the visible light that can pass through the window film or the glass with tint. A darker window tint produces lower VLT levels. The VLT essentially determines the tint darkness or

Like most automotive rules and regulations, window tint laws are specific and unique to each US State and many Canadian Providences. Most laws focus on the VLT or the darkness of a window tint. Before shopping for window tint, check out your State Window Tint Laws by

What’s important is to learn the laws of the state your vehicle is registered – not where you live. However, if you’re going to be moving sooner than later to another state, it’s also a good idea to learn that state’s laws.

A ceramic coating is a semi-permanent layer of protection that can be bonded to your paint, glass, chrome, wheels, leather, textiles, and even plastic trim.

primarily comprise two main ingredients – Silica Dioxide and Titanium Dioxide. As it’s applied to the surface, the coating penetrates the microscopic peaks and valleys found in any porous surface (like the top layer of paint or clear coat, for example).

As it hardens, it levels exceptionally flat, creating a slippery surface that will allow the vehicle to stay cleaner for more extended periods. This is called having hydrophobic properties. It also helps to reduce fading caused by UV radiation, contaminants, and other environmental factors.

Some of the critical PROs of having ceramic coatings installed on your Porsche include:

It can be applied to virtually any surface – and protect it from staining or premature aging.

It enhances the depth, shine, and gloss of the material it’s protecting.

It’s easier to clean and maintain your vehicle.

Rubber and brake dust is less likely to stick – and easier to remove (Key Bonus for your track guys and gals).

Some of the key CONs of a ceramic coating include:

They are scratch-resistant – but not scratch-proof. Even the best coatings can be scratched.

Does not protect the paint from road debris.

The longevity of the coating is mainly based on how many layers are installed by professionals and keeping up with routine maintenance washes (using the right products matters too).

The best solution for any vintage or new Porsche owner is to install PPF on the front clip of your vehicle – and ceramic coatings everywhere else. This will protect those high-strike areas – like the front hood, bumper, grille, side mirrors, and door pillars. The ceramic coating can be installed on other body panels, your wheels and calipers, interior pieces, and glass.

A clear bra (also known as paint protection film) is a transparent and thermoplastic protection film or material that is applied to your car to prevent light scratches and chips. The film is usually applied over the front of a vehicle since this area is most prone to road debris, gravel, tree branches, and more.

Clear bra is often used in conjunction with ceramic coating to offer the best protection and the best shine. This clear bra offers more durable protection for your paint, while the ceramic coating brings out a better-than-showroom shine. But the process requires precision, highly-trained professionals, and the right environment. Moreover, there are some cases where a clear bra isn’t recommended.

Is It Worth It to Get a Clear Bra Done on Your Car?

If you’ve recently purchased a new car and want to keep it in top condition, then a clear bra is a significant protection element that can maintain your car’s original paint quality.

Brand new showroom cars are still exposed to different weather conditions and are in need of protection. As a result, your new car’s glow begins to fade, and you might not realize this until weeks or months later.

Before we dive into whether or not window tinting is a good idea, let’s first cover what window tinting is.

Windowing tinting is applying a thin laminate film to the windows of your car. The lightweight laminate film will darken the vehicle’s glass, and you can choose the level of darkness you want.

Tinted windows also make it more difficult for people to see inside your car. As a result, people often tint their car windows for safety and privacy reasons.

But that’s not the only reason. Tinted windows can also offer protection from UV rays, reduce your car’s interior heat, and reduce glare.

Moreover, you can tint your car’s windows for aesthetic reasons if you simply prefer the look of darkened windows.

Why Install Window Tint on Your Car?

Here are three reasons why car owners should install window tint on their cars:

The sun’s UV rays can cause significant damage to your car’s interior and your own skin. Fortunately, window tinting can block about 99% of damaging UV rays. This way, your car’s dashboard, seats, and other interior components won’t begin to crack or fade.

Window tinting also protects you against skin cancer and other illnesses. In fact, data has shown that UV filtering glass can reduce skin cancer deaths after UV exposure by 93%.

As a result, window tinting protects your car and your own health.

Stepping into an incredibly hot car is both uncomfortable and potentially dangerous.

Fortunately, window tinting can protect your car’s interior from the sun’s heat. The material used in window tints can block thermal energy, including the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) and infrared radiation. This way, the interior of your vehicle won’t heat up as quickly while some sunlight will still shine through.

If you prefer darker windows, then tinted windows are definitely for you. Generally, tinted windows can improve a car’s appearance to look more modern and sleek.

         How is Window Tinting Beneficial?

Here are two more reasons for car window tinting:

As mentioned above, professional window tinting of your car’s windows will keep the interior in good condition.

The condition of a car’s interior plays a significant factor when car dealerships evaluate your car and assign a resale value and trade-in value.

Many window films are built with durable materials that bond with your car’s glass. This way, it provides the windows with extra strength and durability.

This durability can even reinforce your car’s windows during a car accident. As a result, some pieces of broken glass will stay stuck to the window tint, but they won’t make contact with your body. This is a significant safety benefit.

Consider Professional Window Tint for Cars

You can get your car’s windows tinted at your dealership, at professional auto salons, or you can opt to do it yourself. But you should note that window tinting is a delicate process that takes time and expertise if you want it done right. As a result, it’s a good idea to work with a professional when tinting your car’s windows.

Professionals will explain what kind of window tints are available, offer solutions according to your budget and needs, and get the job done properly. Additionally, when tinting is done correctly, it usually lasts longer and will provide you with all the expected benefits.

The answer is that you absolutely can wax your PPF-protected car, but you don’t really need to for the most part. Your car will require far less waxing than it ordinarily would without a PPF. Having said that, it isn’t really necessary or even advisable to wax over a PPF. Wax can build up along the edges of the film, which can become unsightly over time. It is a better choice to apply either a

For best results, we recommend using our XPEL Flawless Finish Paint Protection Film Sealant or XPEL Ceramic Boost. This product has been specially formulated for use with polyurethane paint protection films to provide the maximum protection and gloss, while containing no ingredients that would cause discoloration over time.”

If you do decide to wax your car when you already have a PPF, it is very important to use the right waxes. Technically, it is possible to wax a car that has been coated with PPF, provided you use a wax that does not contain kerosene or naphtha in more than 5% concentration. You should also avoid waxes that contain dyes.

Opinions seem to be divided on this matter. For the most part, it is better not to attempt to polish your PPF-coated car. First, you cannot polish PPF in the same way that you polish paintwork and clear coat, so it is a pointless exercise. Secondly, you will probably damage your PPF in the attempt. That being said, it is technically possible to polish over PPF, and it may be necessary when the coat gets older and starts to lose some of its shine. If you do decide to polish, be extra careful and remember to use the least abrasive pad and polish combination. If your PPF does get to the point that you are considering polishing it, it may actually be time to replace it. As indicated above, it’s best to use XPEL Flawless Finish Paint Protection Film Sealant.

You should exercise extra special care when cleaning your PPF-coated car. Look for a specialty car shampoo that is specially formulated for use on clear bra. The detergent should be applied using a microfiber mitt. Never attempt to wipe off any dirt with a dry cloth, as this could damage the coating. If you are going to use a power washer, steer clear of the edges of the film. It is also best to avoid commercial car washes.

Depending on your vehicle and coverage area, PPF can be more of a financial investment than ceramic coating, so you need to consider the benefits and your own budget.

How are Paint Protection Films and Ceramic Coatings Different?

Although the two treatments are similar in many key attributes, they also differ from one another in a number of significant ways. PPF is the thicker of the two, and it has a chemical composition that allows it to heal itself, meaning it can sustain an abrasion and return to its original form. It absorbs rock chips, small scratches, swirl marks, and hard water spots without permanent damage.

have a different quality. What they do have is a powerful hydrophobic property that allows moisture to bead and roll off the paintwork with ease. The dirt and dust that often come with rain and water from puddles on the road, and more importantly the salt, sand, magnesium chloride, and other chemicals used during snow & ice storms in Colorado Springs, can be cleaned off much easier with a ceramic coating. It doesn’t offer quite as much protection against physical impacts such as those from stones and other hazards. Ceramic coatings also provide an eye-catching glossy finish, which you won’t get with PPF.

The choice between the two protective treatments comes down to your priorities and budget. If you want a coating that will last longer and cost less, then ceramic coating would be the right option. PPF, on the other hand, is more expensive but offers more protection against physical damage and contamination.

you don’t have to choose between PPF and ceramic coating. The two solutions can be applied together. PPF is applied to the areas of the car that are most vulnerable to chips and scratches. These areas include the bumper, hood, fenders, side mirrors, rocker panels, and wheel arches. Once the PPF has been applied to these areas, a ceramic coating is applied to the entire painted surface of the car. The coating bonds to both the paint and the PPF, providing an additional layer of protection against stains and chemical etching. It will also help the film last longer by keeping it clean and free from contaminants. Together, the two products can protect your car’s paint in the long term and preserve and enhance your vehicle’s stunning showroom appearance.

has several benefits, from enhanced appearance to increased privacy and cooler temperatures. However, in Colorado, as in most other states, car owners have to comply with legal limitations when having window tinting done. How well do you know the Colorado Springs laws on window tinting? Here are the essential facts you need to know.

         Colorado Window Tinting Laws

The window tinting laws in Colorado mostly refer to VLT – visible light transmission. This is a measure of the percentage of visible light that passes through a window. An untinted window would generally have a VLT of 100%. With the addition of tinting film, the VLT decreases to the desired level. The VLT level chosen (legal limits notwithstanding) depends on the exact purpose of the window, as well as the amount of light it will typically be exposed to. In theory, VLT levels can range from anywhere between 100% and 0%. In practice, obviously, lowering the VLT is only viable within a certain range before visibility drops too low.

Colorado law states that a car’s side windows and rear window can have a VLT of no less than 27%. When it comes to the windshield, up to 70% non-reflective tinting is allowed on the top four inches of the glass. The rest of the surface of the windshield must be entirely transparent. Full tinting of the windshield is prohibited because it goes against the legal requirement for a completely unimpeded view of the road. If the back window is tinted, the car must have mirrors that allow good visibility of possible obstructions and hazards. Unlike in some other states, Colorado does not require vehicle windows to carry a sticker that marks the tint job as legal. The violation of these laws is a Class B infraction and a finable offense for the operator of the vehicle. If a vehicle with illegal tinting is involved in an accident, there are other implications as well. If a driver has a window tint with an illegal VLT and causes an accident from lack of appropriate visibility, that driver may be regarded as liable for the collision and the resulting damages.

Note that the liability is with the operator of the vehicle, not the shop that installed it. Some car owners are willing to accept the risk by having darker tint installed. Check with your shop for details.

         Window tint reflection in Colorado

Some tints have a metallic or reflective appearance. This serves little practical purpose and is more a question of style. In Colorado, these tints are not an option, as the law does not permit their use on front, side or rear windows.

Some states allow certain medical exemptions to window tinting regulations. Colorado is not one of these. There are no exceptions regarding the VLT levels and reflection requirements in the state. Colorado also does not allow any colored tinting; red or amber tints that might be available elsewhere are not an option here. No certification or labels are required for window tinting in Colorado.

There are possible exceptions to the 27% rule, but only under very specific circumstances. The front windows can never have a lower VLT than 27%, and the windshield below the top four inches cannot be tinted at all. However, the rear and backside windows can be darker than 27% provided that the windshield and front windows allow 70% light transmittance.

Even if you don’t want to darken your windows, you might still want the important health benefit of UV Protection. Dermatologists and Ophthalmologists recommend additional UV protection, particularly if your skin or eyes are very sensitive or at high risk of UV damage. XPEL makes a film for exactly this purpose. You can let 70% to 80% of the light through while blocking over 99% of the sun’s damaging UV rays and up to 98% of the heat.

can fade with prolonged exposure to the sun and heat. What is worse is that as the upholstery is not exposed uniformly, it ends up with unsightly patches that make your interiors look unappealing.

If you have leather upholstery, the exposure to the sun dries out the natural oils that keep it soft and flexible, leaving it dry and damaged. Vinyl upholstery, too, ends up with cracks when exposed to extreme heat, reducing its lifespan substantially.

Therefore, tinting your windows with high-quality tints such as those from Pro Auto Spa blocks harmful UV rays and prevents spots, fading, cracks and other damage to your upholstery.

There is nothing more uncomfortable than driving in a hot car. In peak summers, your air conditioning will have to work much harder if you do not have tinted windows. This results in wear and tear on your A/C system, adversely affecting your mileage and eating into your energy savings. An overworked A/C compressor will have a shorter lifespan, and these are often very expensive to replace in modern cars.

As driving in a vehicle with tinted windows reduces the amount of sunlight entering the vehicle, it reduces glare and improves visibility and driving performance as well.

A car without tinted windows can be more susceptible to smash-and-grabs and break-ins. The probability of this increases when there are valuables easily visible to would-be intruders. Therefore, having tinted windows can ensure shady characters cannot see into your car, improving security significantly. Even though most window tinting cannot stop strong blows or bullets, it is sufficient to provide an extra layer of security that prevents your window glass from shattering.

It’s not just celebrities who need their privacy. Nobody enjoys people looking into their homes or cars. Tinting your vehicle’s windows keeps prying eyes away, creating a little private bubble that keeps you safe and comfortable.
